Modernizing Power Distribution in Iloilo
MORE Electric and Power Corporation — short for Monte Oro Resources & Energy — took over power distribution in Iloilo City after the 97-year franchise of Panay Electric Company (PECO) expired in January 2019. Its own 25-year franchise was signed into law on February 14, 2019, and the company has operated as the city's sole distributor since 2020.
In July 2022, Republic Act No. 11918 expanded MORE Power's franchise to cover Passi City and fifteen municipalities in Iloilo province previously served by electric cooperatives — an expansion upheld by the Supreme Court.
The company has invested heavily in modernization, including a ₱115 million SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system that enables remote monitoring and control of substations. Operational since May 2026, it made MORE Power the first utility in Western Visayas to implement such a system.
