Transforming Water Services in the East Zone
Incorporated on January 6, 1997, Manila Water became the East Zone concessionaire of MWSS when the agency was privatized on August 1, 1997, with Maynilad Water Services as its West Zone counterpart. Its concession area covers around 1,400 square kilometers spanning 23 cities and municipalities, home to a population of over seven million.
Before 1997, only 26% of the East Zone's population had access to a continuous water supply. Manila Water's operations led to a significant overall improvement in water supply and sanitation services across the zone. The company listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange on March 18, 2005, and its concession — originally set to end in 2022 — was extended in 2009 by another 15 years, up to 2037.
